The Lester B. Pearson International Scholarship Program at the University of Toronto is aiming to acknowledge international students who exhibit extraordinary academic achievement and creativity and who are recognized as leaders within their school. A special emphasis is placed on the impact the student has had on the life of their school and community, and their future potential to contribute positively to the global community.

The University of Toronto was founded in 1827 with its primary campus at St. George, Ontario. The University of Toronto (U of T), Canada is a world leader in higher education and research – the university currently imparts world-class education at three different locations in Canada. This multi-campus university offers education to over 93,000 students with over 23,000 international students. With more than 980 programs at the undergraduate and graduate level, U of T offers an abundance of courses in an extensive range of disciplines.

They are over 700 undergraduate and 200 graduate courses available at the University of Toronto. These courses are arranged into 20 faculties and divisions for the systematic delivery of the programs. The University of Toronto additionally offers over 280 graduate programs including 60+ professional graduate programs and 76 combined programs that consist of professional master’s components. The university also offers more than 40 collaborative programs and three diploma programs.

The U of T is well known for providing a world-class, research-intensive environment and it is ranked number 25 by QS World Rankings (2021). Also, according to the 2020 edition of research-focused best global university ranking, by U.S. News & World Report, the U of T was ranked at 18th place.

Every year, approximately 37 students will be named Lester B. Pearson Scholars.

Eligible Countries

International students from around the world, including international students studying at Canadian high schools.

Worth of Award/inclusions/duration

The scholarship will cover tuition, books, incidental fees, and full residence support for four years.

Eligibility Criteria 

To be eligible to apply to the Pearson International Scholarship, you must be:

  • Candidates must be an international student (i.e., a non-Canadian requiring a study permit);
  • Candidates must presently be in their final year of secondary school or have graduated no earlier than June 2021
  • Candidates must be beginning their studies at the University of Toronto in September 2021 (students already attending post-secondary studies cannot be considered; students starting their studies in January 2021 at another post-secondary institution cannot be considered)

Method of Application 

To become a Pearson Scholar, you must be nominated by your school and apply to undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto. To apply, you’ll need to:

The school nomination deadline is 30 November 2021. The student admissions deadline is 14 December 2021/22(you are recommended to apply before 7 November 2021). The scholarship application deadline is 18 January 2022.
